Developing and building an international industry sector-stronghold in bio solutions
Danish businesses are cutting-edge when it comes to biosolutions. As a well-established research-based industry with a strong international engagement, the Danish biosolutions cluster provides abreadth of ways to initiate and accelerate the green transition across industries.
The Lighthouse Project for Biosolutions aims to create an optimal framework and infrastructure for developing, testing and upscaling biotechnological products and solutions.
A large number of public and private actors have joined forces to develop new solutions and a solid infrastructure around bio solutions in Denmark. These actors are government organizations, municipalities, knowledge institutions and small and medium-sized enterprises, among others.
The vision is to create an international industry lighthouse in bio solutions.
The goal is to:
- Facilitate new collaborations that combines innovation, knowledge and business.
- Enable companies to develop their sustainable technologies from labscale to scale-up and full-scale with vouchers that provide access to physical facilities across the country.
- Support the development of physical facilities to create a cohesive infrastructure with an optimal framework for developing, testing and scaling biotech products and solutions.
- Create an overview of all test, demonstration and pilot facilities within biosolutions in Denmark so that companies and entrepreneurs know all the possibilities and the connections between them.
What are bio solutions?
Bio solutions is a business area based on understanding and utilizing biological systems, and produce enzymes, proteins, bacteria, biomaterials etc. on an industrial scale.
With an epicentre in the Zealand region, Denmark has a strong position in biosolutions.
Companies, including Novozymes, CP Kelco, Chr. Hansen, Unibio and others, contribute to a unique environment with knowledge and skills with world-leading research environments in universities and institutes.
Therefore, the project will create an optimal framework for developing, testing and upscaling biotechnological products and solutions.
The vision behind Biosolutions Zealand II is to build the required infrastructure to be a world leader in the development of biosolutions that support the sustainable biotechnologies of the future and the transition to more energy-friendly production.
Bio solutions is the technologies that support more energy-friendly production by:
Reducing climate impact by reducing energy consumption
Better use of the various residual products
Supporting the transition to plant-based and more CO2 neutral foods
Developing new processes or equipment that make production more efficient and thus more competitive on the international playing field.
